CILIARY GANGLION

Ciliary ganglion is one of the parasympathetic ganglion of head and neck.
It have connections with parasympthetic , sensory ,and sympathetic fiber.

So let's see where it is located.

CILIARY GANLION is located between lateral rectus and optic nerve. It is placed in the posterior wall of orbit about 1cm anterior to the medial end of Superior orbital fissure.
In the above diagram you see the cross section of cranium from above. The green dot show the location of CILIARY ganlion.

Now let's see it's connections.

Parasympthetic connections

Pre ganglionic parasympathetic fiber start from edinger west phal nucleus (which is a parasympathetic nucleus) travel with 3rd cranial nerve enter into ciliary ganglion and terminates here.

The post ganglionic parasympathetic fiber comes out as 8 to 10 short ciliary nerve which divide into 15 to 20 branches which pierces the eye ball and supply the ciliaris muscle and constrictor pupilli.
Below diagram show only two short ciliary nerve.

SYMPATHETIC CONNECTION

Sympathetic fiber comes from Superior cervical ganglion and supply the eyeball
It has many route to travel.
It can goes through long CILIARY nerve to supply dilator pupilli or go through CILIARY GANLION to short ciliary nerve to act as vasomotor fiber of eyeball.
It can also travel through sensory root of CILIARY GANLION to the CILIARY GANLION to short ciliary nerve.

Sensory connections

General sensation from the Iris, cornea goes through long ciliary nerve to nasociliary branch of ophthalmic nerve.
It can also travel through short ciliary nerve and cross the ciliary ganglion and goes to the nasociliary branch through sensory root of the ciliary ganglion.
Ok so CILIARY GANLION has 3 root .
Parasympthetic fiber relay over here .
Sympathetic fiber and sensory fiber just cross the ganglion.
